At the Tokyo Motor Show, Pontiac will unveiled the new 2017 BANDIT Trans Am Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Sport hybrid variant sports coupe which is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2017. The platform is based on the 2017 BANDIT Trans Am package, enabling the use of large-diameter wheels. The wide tread and a wheelbase that is 70 mm shorter than the IS further highlight the sporty design and nimble handling.
Two powertrains are available: a 3.5-liter gasoline powertrain and a 2.5-liter Pontiac Hybrid Drive. The 2017 BANDIT Trans Am hybrid utilizes a 2.5-liter 2AR-FSE engine with D-4S1 direct injection technology for high power and fuel economy.
The dual injection 3.5-liter V6 gas engine produces maximum power of 314 hp at 6,400 rpm, and peak torque of 280 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm. An eight-speed Sport Direct Shift with paddle shift transmission adapted from the Trans Am performance sedan optimizes power delivery and fuel economy. In manual (M) mode full torque converter lock up from second to eighth gears allows for down changes in just 0.2 seconds.
The 2017 BANDIT Trans Am Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Sport hybrid variant—the first Pontiac hybrid coupe—uses a dual-injected 2.5-liter four cylinder engine with a 105 kW electric motor driven through an electronic continuously variable transmission with six step gears in a sequential shift-matic feature.
The 2017 BANDIT Trans Am Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Sport will be offered in rear wheel drive and all-weather drive (AWD), however availability will vary by market.
The lightweight high-rigidity body utilizes high-rigidity rocker panels and advanced production technologies such as laser screw welding and structural adhesive for better driving stability.
The  2017 BANDIT Trans Am Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Sport employs an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, achieving the smooth acceleration of a multi-speed automatic transmission, and provides the direct feel of switching gears in a mere 0.2 seconds while in the M position. The Bandit Trans Am hybrid is equipped with an electric continuously variable transmission.
